Analytics is a free tool from Google that can help you learn a lot about your website’s users.  Here are five things you should know about your website traffic.

1. How Many Site Visitors Do You Have?

Analytics shows you exactly how many people visit your website during any period of time.  Analytics can also show you how many of those visitors are repeat visitors and how many are first-time visitors.

2. Where In the World are Your Visitors Coming From?

Every computer that’s connected to the internet has what’s known as an IP number.  These numbers are distributed based on where your computer is located.  Analytics uses these IP numbers to tell you where your visitors are located.

3. How Did Your Visitors Find Your Website?

Did your visitors find you using Google?  Did they click on a link in a FaceBook update?  Did they type in your domain name?  Analytics shows you just which of these tools your website visitors are using to reach your website.

4. What’s the Most Popular Page in Your Website?

Ever wonder which pages are attracting the most visitors?  Once again, Analytics to the rescue.  It provides a ranking of the most popular pages in your website, showing you how many visitors came to each page.

5. What Key Words are Visitors Using Most?

When visitors use a search engine like Google, what search phrases are they using?  Are they the phrases you thought they might be using, or something else?

Analytics does a whole lot more than this, too.  If you don’t have Analytics set up on your website, put it on your internet marketing to-do list.
