Teamwork Business Meeting Concept.

We put a lot of emphasis on “custom” created websites for our customers.  Why is that so important?

For one thing, there are a lot of companies out there creating websites for businesses and some of those websites aren’t so very custom.

I was analyzing the website of a local service company the other day and the whole thing just felt a bit off to me.  The graphics seemed canned. The text seemed like it could apply to just about any company anywhere that did this kind of work.  So I thought I’d check it out.  I found this sentence in the website:  “If you have a forced air heating system check your furnace’s blower compartment and blower coils.” It’s a pretty unique sentence, so if I found more than one use of it on Google, it wouldn’t be an accident.

Next, I did a Google search for that exact phrase.  I found about 180 websites that used that phrase.  My bet is that some company that provides websites sells the same content to a whole bunch of customers.  And this practice is common.

That might be okay for them, but not for me.

What’s so bad about it?  Well, first of all what business owner wants other companies – perhaps even competitors – using their advertising?  But what I think is the worst thing about it is that if a website applies to 180 companies, it’s probably not saying anything genuine about any of them.

Be unique.  Be genuine.  Be one of a kind.  Be the kind of company that your customers can’t find anywhere else.  And then tell them about that uniqueness.

That’s why we insist on “custom” created websites.
